travelling withdrawals
hi everyone! i know i have not updated in a while.. just know i am alive and doing well! i’m currently swamped with final assignments for school and juggling a part-time job at the same time. no complaints, but i am definitely feeling the pressures of completing everything not only on time but with quality.
also, when i’m not thinking of school, being a cashier/associate at my job and hanging out with friends.. i daydream about travelling. instead of feeling home-sick, i’m feeling rather plane-sick. i crave for walking around a different world and a place i’m not familiar with. i want to be surrounded by a culture that i’m not used to.
i want to learn french in Paris. i want to learn spanish in Barcelona. i want to learn italian in Florence. i just want to be there.
the November 4-5 weekend could not have been better. i woke up extra early, picked up my girlfriends and we were on our way to Rochester by 9. the line for the border wasn’t too bad. we made a quick stop by my friend’s uni at Buffalo because she grabbed some alch for us……. screw you America for having the legal age at 21. since we were early and at Buffalo well before 12, we stopped by the mall and were in there till about 4 lol. then finally we drove the last hour to Rochester.
we got ready in the hotel and were in the parking lot of Rodchester Institue of Technology by 6:30 pregaming in the car. whipped cream pinnacle vodka is so good and i am soooo incredibly disappointed that we don’t have that in Canada.
then this is when the best parts of the weekend began… we picked up our tickets. the line was already pretty long but once the doors opened at 7 it went by really fast. of course i love to push through to the front, and with my little sneaky friend Lisa she made that all easier haha.
it probably was not the best crowd Mike’s seen but it was so much bigger than what i’m used to. i really wish Mike was as popular as he is in US and Europe, in Canada. it’s okay, i’ll make it my duty to get his music out here. we were basically one person from the very front of the crowd and surrounded by big rowdy black girls that were ready to start a fight, which definitely brought down my buzz. they didn’t even know who Mike Posner was so they were screaming “i love you” to every white boy coming on stage, i shook my head the entire time. anyways Far East Movement opened. they hyped up the crowd as usual but i didn’t know more than 2 of their songs, lol whoopsies. finally Mike got on the stage and obviously he killed it. i don’t care what anyone says but this guy is so unique and talented. who else sounds exactly like their recorded songs on stage? he’s not faking anything and if you don’t like him, you’re definitely missing out on life.
afterwards, i thought we weren’t going to see them after coming so far.. but after meeting the production manager and waiting a little, Pat finally came and got us. hung out for a little while and before you knew it, we were saying bye :(
Lisa, Catherine and i went back to our hotel and couldn’t stop replaying our night. we finally fell asleep at 4ish and woke up at around 11ish. we started our drive back at 12. we stopped by the same mall from the day before and ate at the Cheesecake Factory. we screwed up though.. we had meals and not one slice of cake lol fail. then we went to the Fashion Outlets where we killled a little more money and finally headed back. the entire time we were trying to hide our buys so we wouldn’t be taxed. we told the border officer we only spent like $270 total but really.. it was sooooo over $700. he didn’t even care i was bringing liquor over. we ended the night at my house and i finally got into bed at 1.
long driving is not bad at all. we are definitely going to attend more out of town shows of Mike’s, and for now my girls and i will be having post concert depression… until next time :)
ps. in case you aren’t quite sure who Mike Posner is.. make sure to check out his video for Cooler Than Me and Please Don’t Go. while you’re at it, this is also a video of him producing one of his covers while he was still studying at Duke University (where he graduated with a 3.6 GPA - impressive, i know) - Halo.
